Hoewel de hele hackers scene rond om de PlayStation 3 een beetje tot stilstand was gekomen is er sinds dit weekeinde weer een beetje leven in de brouwerij gekomen. Maar voor we daar komen eerst een kleine geschiedenis is les. Sinds dat Geohot de PlayStation 3 kraakte is er een kat en muis spel tussen Sony en Hackers aan de gang. Zo was er eerst een USB dongle en daarna custom firmware (CFW) die het mogelijk maakte om homebrew en gedownloade games te booten.

Dit werd vanaf firmware versie bemoeilijkt omdat Sony de encryptie keys veranderde en alle titels na 3.55 niet meer wilde booten. Zo nu en dan kwamen er in het begin nog door slechte controle van game updates (waarbij de 3.55 SDK gebruikt was voor een 4.0 game) spoadisch voor dat een nieuwere game wel te spelen was. Toen werd het akelig stil in de PlayStation 3 hackers scene en leek het er op dat Sony gewonnen had. Dit werd doorbroken door Team Cobra die met hun eigen USB dongle kwamen die het mogelijk maakte bepaalde games van 4.0 en hoger te booten, maar dit vereiste wel gepatched Eboots (soort van .exe voor de PS3) gebruikt moesten worden. Ook dit kwam na een tijdje sti lte staan met hier en daar wat nieuwere titels die wel werkt. Ook de concurrentie zat niet stil en kwamen met de True Blue USB Dongle die ook nieuwere games door middel van patches kon booten, maar toch ook weer niet alles en ook dit kwam redelijk stil te liggen.

Tot dit weekeinde Team E3 (ironisch) kwam met het onderstaande persbericht dat ze een nieuwe manier hebben gevonden om een shitload aan nieuwe games via CFW 3.55 te booten en gaven als bewijs twee Eboots van FIFA Street en Ninja Gaiden 3 vrij die uiteraard werkte. Nu waren er nog mensen sceptisch en daarom dropte ze nog even een video online waar in we kunnen zien hoe de Splinter Cell HD Collection opstart, een game die onder geen van de USB dongles of CFW werkte. Maar deze nieuwe ontdekking snijd aan twee kanten ze kunnen een nieuwe CFW uitbrengen of zoals ze zelf aangeven de derde USB Dongle op de markt. Want Warez aapjes betalen nou eenmaal liever honderd Euro voor een dongle dan voor hun games. Uiteraard houden wij deze ontwikkelingen goed in de gaten, en daarbij wil ik wel even zeggen dat wij TEGEN PIRATERIJ zijn. Maar voor homebrew en je consoles te laten doen wat we zelf willen, want we blijven uiteraard wel geeks en nerds en geen freeloaders.

Official Statement from E3 TEAM

Few days ago, there was news posted on various websites that we had cloned JB2 (aka) 'True Blue' successfully.

We clarify we did not clone any other product, but we did find the ways on how to allow the newer games to work on CFW v3.55.

Our research has found 3 different ways to allow newer games to work on older firmwares!

A way:
No need of any new keys, but allows SOME new games to work on CFW v3.55 with a special bypass.
We think the USB device on market uses this system. (Maybe)
With this method, most games even v4.11 games can run on CFW v3.55 very easily.
But there has some games that can't work with this A way.
E3 TEAM knows this A way very well and can modify a newer v3.6+ game in 10 min.

B way:
Decrypt games with it's private key and encrypt with v3.55 key, so game can run on CFW v3.55 successfully.
For example, you need v3.65 key to decrypt v3.65 game. Need v4.11 key to decrypt v4.11 game.
E3 Team can successfully get all newer keys up to v4.11.
We are 100% sure we can get all keys to v4.20 or higher FW with same way, only it takes some more time.
This means, E3 TEAM can decrypt all newer games with this B way.
As a matter of a fact, we are planning a newer CFW (no more need to be stuck on v3.55) when we have completed our research.

C way:
Modify Blu-Ray firmware to allow newer games to run on older firmware.
But only a few of the newer games can work with this C way, so we stopped researching this method.

We are in the progress of developing a new USB device, to allow users to enjoy our work with economical cost.
We will release further news and list of its features regarding this new product at a later date.

Finally, to thank all of users whom have supported us in the past with our previous products, like the E3 Card Reader and E3 Flasher, we have decided to release 2 game eboots for free for everyone to enjoy that work directly on any console running CFW v3.55 directly.

PS: Unfortunately the latest Slim 3000x consoles can't work currently with methods mentioned above, as it is fully difference design compared to the older PS3 consoles, but have no fear we are still working hard on solving this Jailbreak puzzle.

Remember our current product, The E3 Flasher is also very useful for Dual-Boot and to downgrade on older consoles, as for now we need to still stay on CFW v3.55.
