Opening to $53.5 million domestically, the prequel added another $77.5 internationally for a worldwide total of $131 million. Previously the highest opening of the series came from the first Conjuring movie which opened in July of 2013 to the tune of $41.8 million, which still falls short of The Nun's debut when factoring in inflation adjustments. Overall The Conjuring 2 remains the highest grossing in the series with a final tally of $320 million worldwide, a feat that The Nun will almost certainly try to overcome. Directed by Corin Hardy, the film stars Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as the title character.
